DESCRIPTION | The EPSRC Doctoral Research Scholarship at Swansea University

Candidates of any nationality are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. Students who have some prior experience in (theoretical) computer science or mathematics might do well to participate in this project. A synthesis of numerical and symbolic methods will be utilized by the student. This will involve the student mixing tools from computability, computational complexity, analysis (differential equations, analytic number theory), topology, and algebra (real algebraic geometry, quantifier elimination).

Previous knowledge or expertise in one or more of these areas is useful, but it is not required to complete this course. In addition, difficulties with reachability over rational data become undecidable or demonstrably "hard" even for systems that initially appear to be extremely straightforward.

The Criteria for Eligibility

Applicants to the Swansea University EPSRC PhD Research Scholarship are expected to meet the following standards in order to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Applicants can be of any nationality they want to be.
