Bitcoin Will Aid Reliable Energy Infrastructure in Rural Africa

According to accurate statistics, approximately 500 million Africans reside in rural areas.

Living outside of the city necessitates dealing with problems with the local power grid and, on occasion, having no access to electricity.

Under such conditions, access to the internet and familiarity with the most recent financial technologies, such as Bitcoin, remain uncommon. Keeping in mind these issues, the Bitcoin community has decided to offer innovative solutions.

Other notable Bitcoin mining operations in Africa include Trojan Mining, QRB Labs, and Sukuma, which are headquartered in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Kenya, respectively. Numerous Bitcoin mining initiatives collaborate with GAMA or the Green Africa Mining Alliance.

In May, the alliance released a new report on its progress, highlighting its efforts to cover the gap in local electricity needs and make use of excess energy resources that are typically wasted.

Regardless of the regulatory clarity on the subject, GAMA has reported that the productivity of these green mining initiatives has increased fivefold year-over-year. Hydroelectric generators are reportedly used by non-tech companies such as Virunga National Park to power their Bitcoin mining operations.
