CBN: Five facts about interim Governor Folashodun Shonubi

President Bola Tinubu suspended Mr. Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with immediate effect on Friday.

Tinubu also instructed Emefiele to promptly transfer his office's responsibilities to Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate).

He stated that Shonubi will serve as CBN Governor until the investigation and reforms are completed.

Following is a concise summary of the Interim Governor of the CBN.

1.Shonubi was born on March 7th, 1962.

2.He possesses two master's degrees from the University of Lagos, in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering, respectively.

3.He is a financier with over 30 years of experience and was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System PLC from 2012 to 2018.

4.Shonubi was the Executive Director of Information Technology and Operations at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, a member of the Board of Union Homes, and the Director of Information Technology and Corporate Services at Renaissance Securities Nigeria Limited, where he was responsible for the Group's IT infrastructure in Africa.

5.He was the Deputy General Manager of MBC International from 1999 to 2007, as well as the Vice President of First City Monument Bank Limited and the Executive Director of Ecobank Nigeria Limited.
