The strike affected institutions in Egbu, Wethedral, the World Bank, the Owerri-Onitsha road, the Owerri-Aba road, and the Owerri-Port Harcourt road, among others.
A school proprietor along the MCC/Uratta road, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated that the schools decided to close after receiving a letter from ''IPOB'' stating that "schools in Owerri have refused to observe the IPOB sit-at-home, and failure to do so will result in severe punishment for defaulters."
"As a result, a few of us communicated with other school proprietors, and we agreed to stop sending our students to school on Mondays for the time being." Until safety guarantees our protection. We do not want straightforward attacks. I believe we have been open for educational activities for over a year, possibly even two years. I consider this threat to be quite serious."
Another owner of a school, along Owerri-Aba road, said;
"I believe we must do away with this sitting-at-home of a thing. Why is it returning? According to information I've received, this sit-in is not organized by the original IPOB members. These individuals should recognize that they are destroying Igboland. You cannot bring conflict to the land of your father. Our education sector is suffering as a result." he said
Other sectors impacted included transportation companies operating outside of Owerri, some of the state's largest markets, and financial institutions, among others.
