The Manchester Evening News has learned that Manchester United have no plans to establish their own cricket club, despite claims that co-chairman Avram Glazer was contemplating the idea following a trip to the United Arab Emirates, according to sources.

In a meeting with Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum yesterday [Thursday], Glazer, who has only attended one United game since the start of the 2019/20 season, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

Later, a tweet sent by the latter following the meeting stated that they had discussed "the establishment of the UAE T20 Cricket league in January 2023, which will include the Manchester United cricket squad and others."

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has acknowledged that England coach Gareth Southgate intends to meet down with him to find out why he has been struggling recently.

Northampton United academy graduate Ashley Young has been dropped by England manager Gareth Southgate from his squad for friendlies against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast later this month. Both teams will be welcomed to Wembley by the Three Lions as they continue their World Cup preparations later this year.

Despite being omitted from the squad, Rashford will not play in England's first match of the new calendar year. A lack of form in recent months has led to speculation over his future at Old Trafford.
