Two former Manchester United players are interested in joining Erik ten Hag's staff as assistant managers.

During the summer, Manchester United is said to be looking to hire a new assistant manager as well as a new manager to replace Ralf Rangnick, who is now interim manager.

Rio Ferdinand and Robin van Persie are both interested in the position, according to Stretty News, and it is expected that a former player would be brought in to help unify the dressing room.

The Red Devils have held negotiations with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag about the possibility of employing him as their future manager, with Stretty News reporting that an agreement is on the cards.

However, the story says that Ferdinand has not convinced United's top brass to cooperate with Ten Hag.

Could one of these two be Man United's new assistant?

With everything in mind, it's possible that Van Persie may be the small favorite, though it remains to be seen whether any other players will enter the running in the coming weeks and months.

After losing its way since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013, Manchester United would undoubtedly benefit from allowing some of its former players to have a greater impact at Old Trafford.
