Ahead of Erik ten Hag's decision, Gary Neville wonderfully summed up Manchester United's.

On the subject of Erik ten Hag becoming Manchester United's next permanent manager, the club's players are divided.

They tried everything they could to make it successful again - but they were unsuccessful." Appointing either a young or no manager with managerial talent will not be simple. We need a dramatic shift here, so that everyone understands that this is a fresh start for a new initiative.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville uttered those 56 words after watching his team's humbling defeat to Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday. Speaking to Kelly Cates while perched atop a gantry, Neville couldn't help but draw your attention. Stopping what you were doing and paying attention was one of those rare occasions.

One of the most vocal critics of Manchester United in history, Neville was making great sense and merely stating what every fan of the club had been thinking for some time. It was a fascinating nine minutes of analysis, and Neville made the most of his time on the air by doing everything he could.

In light of the rumored divide in the Manchester United locker room over Erik ten Hag's future as manager, his admission now stands out even more strongly. According to the Manchester Evening News, some players in the team are enthused by the idea of working with the Dutchman, while others believe that selecting him to replace Ralf Rangnick would be 'underwhelming.'.

It begs the issue of what the players of Manchester United genuinely desire at this stage. The answer to that query is Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, as previously reported in February.

They feel that the Argentine is popular with the players, and that his previous experience in the Premier League has played a major role in their decision-making process. As a result, he maintains close ties with Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, whom he worked alongside throughout his stint at the club.

Ten Hag is the preferred choice for Manchester United, and the players' opinions should not influence the club's decision-makers. However, Pochettino remains open to the possibility of a United appointment. A culture reset has never been more urgently needed at Manchester United than after Saturday's game, as Neville eloquently put it in his post-match comments. It is impossible to overstate how catastrophic this season has been for Manchester United in every way, and a culture reset is required in order to prevent a repeat of this season from occurring once more.

Just though Manchester United won two titles under Jose Mourinho in 2016/17 doesn't mean that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Philipp Lahm are to blame for the club's shortcomings. According to Roy Keane, the players "threw Mourinho under the bus" in December 2018.

What unites us all is our common ground: our players Unless the club's true power players take a stand, this will continue.

It is for this reason that they should, now more than ever, stick to their guns and do everything in their power to appoint Ten Hag, not out of spite or simply to enrage individuals in the dressing room, but in order to lay down the law and demonstrate who is in command at Old Trafford, Neville's call for a cultural reset from the top of the chain links into this.

A lot will happen in the next few months, both in the dugout and inside the team itself. When the time is right, individuals who don't want to be a part of the rebuilding process should be given the boot.

If history were to repeat itself, United would be looking for a manager who knows a lot about culture and has a strict set of rules. He's exactly what we need to make the shifts we need to make this summer.

United must retake control at the top and stop caving in to the demands of the players on executive decisions, especially since many of them have no medals or trophies to show for their efforts yet. The decision to turn to Ten Hag may, in fact, have risks. A lack of experience in dealing with egotistical individuals is simply one of them.

But what management doesn't have a "grey area" in their job? You should do your best to locate one.
Ten Hag, on the other hand, screams as a departure from United's previous experimentation. Even though he's a well-known figure, he hasn't had the success Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho had previous to their appointments at the helm. He might be able to help United get the cultural change they need, even if the players don't like it.
