As a result of the Man United connection, Gary Neville advises Declan Rice to follow Cristiano Ronaldo's lead.

With Manchester United still keeping tabs on Rice's progress at West Ham, speculation is rife about his future.

Former Manchester United manager Gary Neville believes that the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the club in 2009 could serve as a model for Declan Rice's exit from West Ham.

After six years at Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave to join Real Madrid. While Manchester United continued to compete for domestic and European titles, the Portuguese ace would enjoy a dazzling stint at La Liga.

Neville, who had previously stated to Sky Sports that Rice would be leaving the Hammers in 'the next year or two,' asserted that the club's ability to plan for Ronaldo's departure from Old Trafford was aided by the fact that the decision to leave was made public. The club's success, he claimed, was not jeopardized as a result. Rice's departure, he believes, should serve as an example for West Ham United when it comes to dealing with the situation.

He went on to explain: "When Cristiano [Ronaldo] left Manchester United for the first time, there was no ripple effect around the club since everyone was aware of what was taking place. Nobody seemed to be scratching their heads or making wild guesses about what was going on. In this particular case, I believe West Ham and Declan Rice can get away with it because everyone is aware that it is almost certain to happen."

In the coming months, the Red Devils plan to add to their midfield. Manchester United have previously been linked with a bid for Rice but the deal never materialized. The England international, according to recent sources, has turned down a new contract offer for the third time and is now open to the possibility of leaving the London Stadium.
