Video: The moment Rashford save Man United, from Chelsea's free kick against United.

This is not how things should have turned out. There was no doubt that Marcus Rashford would be victorious.

The number of goals he scored after breaking into the Manchester United first squad in 2016 has progressively increased. First season he had seven goals; the following two seasons he had 11 and 13 goals, until a remarkable leap to 22 in 2019/20 before a single goal was scored fewer last season. Until recently, he was making steady improvement.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has scored just five goals this season, his lowest total since his debut in the first team – and even less than the 18 appearances he made during his rookie year. It's been upsetting and frustrating to watch the drastic deterioration.

Rashford's status has never been lower, whether due to a lack of confidence, a lack of fitness following shoulder surgery in the summer, decreasing passion in a season that has long been a write-off, or a lack of interest in Ralf Rangnick's techniques. As a result, United have been hurt.

Even if he isn't solely to blame for United's poor season, Rashford's struggles have had a significant impact on the team's lack of firepower and excitement. Not only has he been playing poorly, but his all-around performance has been abysmal as well.

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford appears to lack confidence in both himself and his teammates. Rangnick's lack of confidence in him as a starter is understandable.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is evaluating his future at Old Trafford ahead of the summer transfer window because of the lack of playing time. When he takes over, he is expected to ask Erik Ten Hag for clarification on his responsibilities.

A year ago this would have been unfathomable, but now it's Ten Hag's job to get things back on track for Rashford. He has a history of doing things like this.

Even while Ajax's vibrant style of play and the development of several promising young players have been widely praised, the 52-year-ability old's to revive careers has been underappreciated. The majority of Ajax's roster consists of academy products and ex-big-league players, despite the fact that they are the dominant force in the Netherlands.

Ten Hag has brought in players who had gone out of favor at their previous clubs and were on the verge of being extinct during his time in charge. It was only when Ten Hag got his hands on them that the former teams were made to seem foolish.
