The Professor Nimi Briggs Committee and the striking academics met on Tuesday at the National University Commission in Abuja in the hopes of breaking the deadlock.
Members of the Briggs renegotiation committee did not present any new offers to the table, according to a top member of ASUU who requested anonymity and spoke to Channels Television.
Instead, the committee begged the professors to cease their strike, the ASUU source claimed, assuring them that their issues would be addressed in the 2023 budget.
The meeting, which began around 12pm, continued for nearly three hours, the source said, but no decision was made during that time.
Objections of ASUU
At the beginning of February, ASUU began a four-week warning strike.
The union decided to take a two-month break from its strike on March 14 to give the government time to fulfill all of its requests. On May 9, an additional twelve weeks were revealed.
The union has continued its strike since May 9 and has vowed to do so until its demands are granted.
The academic community wants a number of things, including better welfare, the revitalization of public universities, and academic autonomy.
The failure to pay university revitalization funding, totaling around N1.1 trillion, is one source of dissatisfaction among academics.
However, the Federal Government has asserted that it lacks the resources to make such a payment, citing the low oil prices experienced during President Muhammadu Buhari's watch.
2009 saw the agreement's signing.
The Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System problem is another (IPPIS).
The University Transparency and Accountability Solution is an alternative payroll system that has been advocated by academics (UTAS).
