Authorities in the Bahamas are investigating the collapse of the FTX.
Following the action that was taken against FTX by the Bahamas securities regulator on November 11, 2022, the country's Securities Commission provided an update to the public the following day. The governing body made it clear that it had not granted FTX approval to permit withdrawals for Bahamian consumers.
The Bahamas securities regulator issued the following statement on November 12: "The Commission wishes to advise that it has not instructed, sanctioned or proposed to FTX Digital Markets Ltd. the prioritization of withdrawals for Bahamian clients," FTX Digital Markets Ltd. The governing body continued:
The [Bahamas Securities Commission] does not approve of any investor or client of FTX Digital Markets Ltd. or any other company being given preferential treatment for any reason.
In addition, on November 13, Reuters published an article stating that a comment was made by the Royal Bahamas Police Force regarding the FTX incident, and the police stated that an investigation was now being conducted. The Bahamian police officer who spoke to the media outlet explained that a group of financial investigators from the Financial Crimes Investigation Branch are collaborating closely with the Bahamas Securities Commission in order to determine whether or not any illegal misbehavior had place.
FTX executives were contacted by the news publication; however, they did not "immediately react to Reuters' request for a comment." The announcement comes after FTX Digital Markets Ltd., together with Alameda Research and 134 other entities, filed for bankruptcy protection. Further explanation was provided by one company, which stated that they were "incorrectly included" in FTX's Chapter 11 filing.
Some people have suggested that Sam Bankman-Fried (also known as SBF) is playing the video game "League of Legends" as the FTX exchange is falling apart around him. According to a report by Cointelegraph, SBF and members of his close circle may be subject to investigation by the regional authorities. A report from the flight radar indicated that SBF's private plane traveled to Argentina on November 12th.
