How pools work

How pools work

Your profile will normally remain in the pool until the following conditions are met:

you are sent an invitation to submit an application for a work visa; after the conclusion of the season, all of the profiles are removed from the pool(s); or

you're no longer eligible for IEC
During the IEC season, we will send out invites on a regular basis to candidates who are in the IEC pools. You can learn the following by consulting the agenda:

when the rounds of invites will start and conclude for each nation and category how many applicants will be in the pools and what your chances are of earning an invitation this season
At any point during the IEC season, you are free to send in a completed IEC profile. You have a chance of getting an Invitation to Apply for a Work Permit if you submit your profile before the date of the last round of invitations for your nation and if you meet all of the other requirements.

One IEC profile in many pools
At any given moment, you are only permitted to have a single IEC profile. However, it is possible for you to qualify for more than one IEC pool.

After you have finished filling up your profile, we will inform you of the many pools that are open to you. You are free to submit your profile to any of these open pools of candidates. You may, for instance, be qualified to submit your profile to the Working Holiday and Young Professionals pools if you meet the requirements for doing so.

How we distribute it Invitations to Apply for Positions
The following is the sequence in which Invitations to Apply will be issued:

Working Holiday for Young Professionals Participating in an International Co-op or Internship
You will be extended an invitation to apply for a position in the International Co-op category if your profile is included in both the International Co-op (Internship) pool and the Working Holiday pool. Only in the event that there are no more openings in the International Co-op (Internship) category will you be extended an invitation to submit an application for a Working Holiday work visa.

Prepare the necessary documentation to substantiate your claims.
Even if you are extended an invitation to apply for a work permit, this does not guarantee that you will be granted one.

In order to obtain a permission to work, you will need to:

Show verification of the information you gave us in your IEC profile, give extra information on your education, employment history, and background, and submit any potential supporting papers when you are asked for them.
If you are in an IEC pool, you should begin the process of gathering any supporting documentation you might want for your application for a work visa as soon as possible. Obtaining some paperwork might take as much as a few months. You never know when you'll get an Invitation to Apply, and once you do, you won't have much time to get your work permit application and supporting paperwork in order.
