Some want Nnamdi Kanu detained beyond the Tinubu administration - Ohanaeze

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, a chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has stated that some individuals close to President Bola Tinubu oppose his decision to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Isiguzoro stated that these individuals desire Kanu to remain imprisoned beyond Tinubu's administration.

He lamented the fact that these individuals want the IPOB leader to be detained alongside Boko Haram prisoners.

The Secretary-General of the Ohanaeze, commanded by Chidi Ibeh, told DAILY POST that the organization intends to turn the Igbos against one another and ensure that the Southeast is torched.

According to Isiguzoro, "We have observed that there are individuals who do not wish Ndigbo well, who want the Southeast to perish, and who harbor so much animosity towards Ndigbo because of Nnamdi Kanu's past actions.

"Such individuals surround Mr. President and have previously surrounded Buhari. These are the individuals who recognize that Kanu's continued incarceration and detention would result in insecurity, hardship in the Southeast, and the destabilization of the most peaceful region in Nigeria; as a result, they urged Buhari to ensure that Kanu's detention was carried out to incite Igbos to rebel against themselves.

"Despite the pleadings of elder statesmen, such as the late Mbazulike Amaechi, for Buhari to release Kanu, these individuals have continued to exert pressure to guarantee his imprisonment beyond Tinubu's tenure.

"The majority of them allege that erstwhile MEND leader Henry Okar is still in detention following his 2003 threat to blow up Eagles Square. The majority of them argue that Kanu should be placed on the same list as lethal Boko Haram members.

"These actions are designed to push the Southeast and the Monday sit-ins to the brink so that the residents of the region will fight back and the military will be deployed against them."

"We are aware that it will be very difficult for Mr. President to be surrounded by individuals who do not want Kanu to be released. The message to Ndigbo is that their adversaries are at work, so they should not anticipate Kanu's release anytime soon.

“Kanu’s release will surely come, but not so soon because this government is just starting, and the roadblock is too long; it will take the hand of God and Tinubu to defeat these enemies around him.”
