Erik ten Hag has emerged as the new favorite to replace Sir Alex Ferguson as manager of Manchester United – and the Ajax manager has previously stated that he would like to work in a foreign country.
According to reports in the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is reportedly the favorite candidate to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford this summer. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired from his position as Manchester United manager in November, the Dutchman has been in a heated fight with Mauricio Pochettino for the position.
With regards to the current situation, United hasn't taken a definitive choice. This summer will be critical for the team and they still plan on hiring someone before the season is over.
Due to the departure of Ralf Rangnick from the club and the departure of an avalanche of players, the new manager will be faced with a monumental challenge following what has been an appalling campaign for the club. The club, on the other hand, appears to have picked their favorite candidate for the position.
This isn't the first time that Ten Hag has remained tight-lipped regarding his future. Initially, the 52-year-old refused to answer any questions on the United position.
"I live in the now, so it's difficult for me to respond to this," Ten Hag said in an interview with ESPN in November. Since Ajax is also interested in improving their team, my desire to do so will continue for as long as I feel this drive.
"I am content with my job at Ajax. I think I can do some good job there. The weather and environmental conditions are favorable. Good management and extremely lovely employees, not to mention a very good set of players who are also adaptable," says the coach.
Ten Hag, on the other hand, appears to have changed his tune in recent weeks. Since Marc Overmars' resignation as director of football at Ajax, the club's manager has been outspoken about his feelings, and he has expressed dissatisfaction with the club's current state of affairs in recent weeks.
According to him this week, "the longevity of our team has always been limited in recent years." "I comprehended – and continue to comprehend – the sale of players." In order to continue playing a key role in the Champions League, you will need to be able to deal with such bloodletting," says the coach.
He gave his strongest indication that he was ready for a new challenge in December, though. Rumours of Ten Hag's interest in replacing Louis van Gaal as Manchester United's manager have been increasing.
"I believe I am prepared for this [coaching abroad]. Certainly, I would be delighted to accept the challenge "In December, ten Hag spoke to the Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant. "But I'm not going to chase it. Regardless of whether or not that next step will ever be taken, I will not consider my coaching career a failure. However, I believe I possess the necessary skills to meet the challenge at hand."
In recent interviews, Ten Hag has categorically denied that he is taking English lessons in preparation for a move to Manchester United. However, his recent statements have shown that he is seriously pondering his future at Ajax. With the Reds reportedly interested in signing him, a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.
