The 37-year-old has had a mixed second term at Manchester United, with some excellent individual performances overshadowed by the fact that the squad as a whole has underperformed, which may be partly owing to his not being particularly well suited to their playing style.

If Ronaldo were to leave Old Trafford this summer, one would expect him to join another European powerhouse, or even one of the affluent clubs in the Major League Soccer (MLS) or a similar league.
