It is expected that interim head coach Ralf Rangnick would go into a consultant post after leaving the Old Trafford dugout for Ten Hag, who has done wonders in his current capacity at Ajax to re-establish the Amsterdammers' prominence within the European footballing landscape.

Ten Hag's appointment is a progressive move, as he is widely regarded as one of football management's most promising young talents. However, it is also a risky move. Unlike his four predecessors, he has never worked as a head coach in a 'big five' league prior to this.
