The planet is currently plagued by a variety of environmental issues. Climate change is being witnessed all over the world. In the Northern Hemisphere, heatwaves are becoming more and more severe and famine is becoming commonplace in many parts of the world. Hurricanes are becoming more common in many parts of the world.
Environmentalists attribute global warming to volcanic eruptions, crude oil burning, greenhouse gas emissions and negative human activities such as deforestation, use of nitrogen fertilizers in crops, etc. According to the United Nations, watersheds are being dehydrated for agriculture, which has wiped out about 87% of the world's water bodies in the last 300 years.
We need urgent action to address these important issues, with "just one land" and the focus on it, as always, on sustainable living in harmony with nature. We should focus on fixing the earth instead of damaging it. The good news is that there are solutions and technologies that are affordable.
Achieving sustainable life
Options for real change towards sustainability should be available, affordable and attractive to people so that they can make better everyday decisions. Key areas of change include how we build and live in our homes, cities, offices and places of worship, how and where our money is spent, and what we do for fun. But other factors of greater magnitude include energy, production systems, global trade and transportation systems, and biodiversity conservation.
There are billions of galaxies in the universe, and there are billions of planets in our galaxy, but there is only one Earth, so take care of that.
