INGREDIENTS
- Apples
- Sugar ( Optional)
- Water
PREPARATION
- Wash the apple first, and then dissect it to get the seeds out. Apples should be cut into pieces. The apples don't need to be peeled.
- Add the apples to the pot and just cover them with water. Juice that has been overly diluted by water. This juice could turn out a little powerful, but adding more water to the mixture will make it much easier to drink than trying to intensify the flavor.
- Boil the apples over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes, or until very tender. In your fine mesh strainer, put a coffee filter or a piece of cheesecloth, and set it over a bowl.
- Gently mash the apples after slowly ladling the hot juice/apple mixture into a colander with fine mesh. The apple mush will be left behind as the juice filters through the bottom and into your bowl. Put the mush in a another bowl to be used later. Continue doing this until the bowl is full of juice.
- Taste the juice after it’s cooled for a bit. You can add additional sugar or cinnamon depending on your preferences. Again, if the flavor is too strong, you can add water a little bit at a time to weaken the flavor.
- You can easily turn the apple mush you gathered into applesauce by pureeing it and seasoning it to taste with a little sugar and cinnamon.
Remember that since homemade apple juice lacks preservatives, it should be kept in the refrigerator and used within a week. Enjoy!
