According to POLITICS Nigeria, Nigerian senators are currently plotting to remove President Muhammadu Buhari due to the ongoing security situation in the nation.
Several Senators left the plenary earlier this week when Senate President Ahmed Lawan obstructed attempts to discuss President Buhari's failure to end the country's protracted war against insecurity.
A press conference was also convened during which they gave the President a six-week deadline to find a solution or face the possibility of impeachment.
In a recent interview, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who sits in the Red Chamber as the senator for Osun East, acknowledged that there are efforts underway to remove President Buhari. He also stated that Senate President Ahmed Lawan would be removed if he tried to obstruct the process.
"We have been discussing and making recommendations on how to resolve the security issues the nation is currently experiencing, but the Head (Senate President) is tethered to the Villa. All of our attempts to take the President down with force have been thwarted by him.
"We have decided to strike while the iron is still hot rather than wasting our time working with the leadership of Ahmad Lawan while the country is being devastated by terrorists with no strategy by the government to stop them. We won't hold off till we are all dead.
"We have now decided to withdraw from the 'rubber stamp' arrangement so that the entire nation of Nigeria would know that we have not been in support of the collapsing economy, the massive debt accumulation, the depreciating naira, the widespread insecurity, and the unprecedented levels of corruption taking place in the polity,"
"Unfortunately, the person leading us today (Lawan) previously led the opposition parliamentarians and was exposing the flaws in the system at that time. Now that things are disintegrating daily, he doesn't want anyone to question Buhari's administration. Because we were chosen by the people, any leader who rejects such a challenge in a democracy must likewise face opposition.
"Go interview the vast majority of the senators. The federal government's departments, agencies, and ministries are not effectively under control. Buhari will present the budget, and his supporters in this country would urge us to pass it as soon as he does. There are no tests, and MDA heads can do as they choose.
He explained, "That is why we decided that if we returned on September 20 and found that the situation was still the same, with no meaningful advances taken, we would impeach him.
