Lawmakers threaten to remove Lawan from office and refuse to back down on Buhari's impeachment

As previously reported by Naija News, the opposition members pledged to impeach Buhari if he didn't resolve the nation's security issues within six weeks

Angry Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Assembly legislators have refuted rumors that they are rescinding their threat to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over the country's rising insecurity.

As previously reported by Naija News, the opposition members pledged to impeach Buhari if he didn't resolve the nation's security issues within six weeks.

Francis Fadahunsi, a PDP senator from Osun East, said it was untrue that the opposition party was backing down from its effort to impeach the President in an interview with PUNCH on Sunday.

Prior to the actions against Buhari, Fadahunsi stated that the lawmakers would also oust the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, saying they could no longer keep dying in quiet.

Who said so, he questioned? Who are the legislators in the opposition who met? Senator Gershom Bassey, who you interviewed, stated that we meant what we said. Those who make such claims are not feeling well.

"You heard Senators Clifford (Ordia) from Edo, Senator Bulkachuwa (Mohammed), and the rest support the impeachment," a northern senator said. So who is it that informed them of this?

“Prior to our absence, Bulkachuwa moved the motion, but the Senate President overruled him. Instead of dying one by one and keeping quiet, we will quickly push him out of the area.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who represents Abia South, backed up his colleague by refuting the assertion that the opposition senators had abandoned their plan to oust Buhari.

As the plenary was adjourned on the day they moved to impeach the president, Abaribe claimed he was unaware of such a decision.

No such thing, he retorted. On that day, we took a break. Any such development is unknown to me. Probably not true.

Abiodun Olujimi, a senator from Ekiti South Senatorial District, backed her colleagues by claiming that the rumors that the senators were abandoning the impeachment were wrong.

She claims that the decision to impeach the president was made by a unanimous vote and that no meetings have been held since the previous plenary.

"I am not aware of such a decision, it was an established issue that we have all agreed on the impeachment of the President if the insecurity status of the country was not handled," the woman responded.

"To the best of my knowledge, we haven't had any meetings since then. In this way, nothing changes.

Unmoved by Impeachment

Ajibola Bashiru, a spokesperson for the Senate, responded by stating that the body was unaware of any danger of impeachment.

According to Bashiru, there was no impeachment notice, and a media walkout was not an impeachment action.

"Honestly, I don't know anything about that; I'm not even aware that they've filed any motion," he admitted. There must be a motion made before you may discuss the impeachment process.

"Neither a motion nor an application were filed in this regard. Therefore, I am unaware of any impeachment efforts.

"There must be an impeachment notice before you can discuss impeachment. Was there a notification of impeachment? Serving an impeachment notice is different from a media boycott.

."Since I am not aware of any impeachment discussions, I can only speak about the National Assembly's procedure and not politics. And as far as I'm aware, none has been submitted to the National Assembly.
