Huobi will stop trading in derivatives involving cryptocurrency in New Zealand

Trading of cryptocurrencies Just a few months after expanding its business there, Huobi Global announced Tuesday that it will stop providing derivatives trading services to consumers in New Zealand as of next week.

On August 23, the Seychelles-based exchange will stop providing certain services, including coin-margined futures, coin-margined swaps, tether (USDT)-margined contracts, options, and providing exchange-traded products to users in New Zealand.

The same day, New Zealand will be added to Huobi's user agreement as a "restricted jurisdiction" with regard to trading in derivatives.

As recently as June, Huobi announced that it has expanded operations into New Zealand and that it had been registered with the New Zealand Companies Office as a financial services provider in the nation.

According to Huobi's user agreement, users from 12 countries, including the U.K. and mainland China, are prohibited from accessing derivatives products. Users from 11 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Iran, and Singapore, are already prohibited from using "all services" provided on the Huobi platform.

"New Zealand user accounts for derivatives trading in an orderly way while protecting the protection of user assets," the exchange stated it would restrict.

Requests for response from Huobi Global and the New Zealand financial regulators were not promptly fulfilled.
