Links to Manchester United Gavi, a star at Barcelona, signs a new deal with a huge buy-out clause

Gavi, a midfielder for Barcelona, has signed a new four-year contract at the Nou Camp that includes a staggering buy-out option for €1 billion (about £865 million).

When his previous contract was about to expire in the summer of 2019, the 18-year-old had been mentioned in connection with a possible transfer to the Premier League, and Manchester United was rumored to be keeping an eye on him. There was some uncertainty regarding the young man's intention to lengthen the duration of his stay in Barcelona.

There were rumors circulating that Manchester United were getting ready to compete with Liverpool and Bayern Munich for the rights to sign him next summer, when he would have been eligible to sign a free agency contract. Gavi had previously been the source of aggravation for Barcelona club president Joan Laporta, who had expressed his annoyance with Gavi for delaying the signing of the new contract. "We don't comprehend... The current circumstances are not to my liking. I urge them [Gavi and his representatives] to accept it as quickly as possible since it assists us in planning, and I hope they do.

Should their massive financial problems persist, Barcelona has been warned by La Liga that they will be subject to another pay cap beginning with the next season. They were able to fund their transfer transaction throughout the summer by selling off assets, and as a result, they were able to acquire players such as Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Jules Kounde.

It was said that Gavi was uncertain about signing a new deal amidst all of the financial upheaval. But this appears to be different now, as his employers announced on Wednesday that a compromise had been reached between the two parties.
