After scoring a goal for Manchester United on Sunday evening at Goodison Park against Everton, winger Antony established a new record for the club.
After Alex Iwobi had given the home team the lead early on in the match with an equally eye-catching strike, the Brazilian winger tied the game on Merseyside with a brilliant, swept finish to score the equalizer. Only academy product Marcus Rashford has scored more goals for the team so far this season. Antony's goal was his third since making the move from Eredivisie giants Ajax to Manchester United in the summer for more than £70 million.
Not only did the goal extend his impressive run of form since moving to Old Trafford, but it also broke a record that had stood for a significant amount of time for the Red Devils.
In point of fact, Antony was the first United player in club history to score in each of their first three Premier League matches after joining the club. After scoring in his first game for the Red Devils, a victory over Arsenal, he followed that up with a goal in the Red Devils' recent 6-3 drubbing at the hands of their fiercest rivals, Manchester City.
It is a record that he will undoubtedly be aiming to extend when Erik ten Hag's squad returns to league action the following weekend against Newcastle United, who is currently in good form.
Bruno Fernandes, the captain of United, was very complimentary about the manner in which his new teammate has adjusted to life in England. After the final whistle at Goodison Park, the Portuguese player had the following to say when he was interviewed by BT Sport: "He [Antony] is a tremendously talented player. Because of the qualities that he possesses, the club was willing to pay that amount of money to acquire him."
However, for the time being, he and Antony proved to be the game-winning contributions that the Red Devils needed. In the final ten minutes of play at Goodison Park, Marcus Rashford thought he had completed the scoring, but the goal was disallowed by the video assistant referee due to a handball that occurred earlier in the buildup.
United moved up to fifth place in the Premier League standings as a result of their win against Everton. This puts them in better position for their matchup with Newcastle the following week.
