On Thursday evening, Old Trafford will play host to the Europa League match between Manchester United and Omonia Nicosia.
The match between United and Omonia, which took place in Cyprus a week ago and was decided by a score of 3-2, was anything but simple, despite the fact that Erik ten Hag's team entered the game as heavy favorites. Omonia took an early lead in the game, forcing United to come up with a solution to overcome the early deficit.
Anthony Martial scored one goal and Marcus Rashford scored two goals, but Anthony Martial won't be able to play in the second leg at Old Trafford because he injured his hip in the pre-match warm-up at Goodison Park over the weekend. Rashford scored two goals and Martial scored one goal.
In other team news, Raphael Varane made his comeback against Everton and is now fully recovered from the injury that sidelined him earlier.

United should not be as wasteful as they were in Nicosia, and certain decisions should be made with an eye on their upcoming match against Newcastle. There is no reason to put Raphael Varane in danger by playing him in this game, and Casemiro, who will be needed on Sunday, could be replaced by Scott McTominay.
After making his first start since August against Everton, Luke Shaw could benefit from some continuity, and Tom Heaton deserves to make his full debut for Manchester United. Fred is long overdue for a start in his best position as an advanced midfielder.
If United are able to get the game over with early, they should keep the same front four players so that they have the option to rest some or all of them with time left on the clock.

The bizarre loan move that Dubravka made to United would seem even more out of place if he were not to start in this match. Dubravka has not made a single appearance for United. Ten Hag has assured everyone that he will select a formidable team, but the Dutchman must rotate players in order to avoid fatigue.
This indicates that Malacia should make his way back into the starting lineup, with Shaw possibly taking over at the weekend. Fred and McTominay, who were very familiar with one another, should start in the midfield alongside Fernandes, who should replace Eriksen if he is given the opportunity.
It is time for Eriksen to take a break; he simply cannot play every minute of every game this season. Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga should start on the wings, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored his remarkable 700th club goal of his career over the weekend, should start in the middle of the field.
After a string of poor performances in recent weeks, Sancho needs to bounce back with a strong showing in this match.

There is no denying that Dubravka will start for United at some point, and now would be the perfect opportunity for him to do so. If Maguire were fit to play, he would start as well, but United does not have a lot of options at center back or right back, and Varane ought to have some cotton wool wrapped around him in preparation for the weekend.
It's a shame that neither Aaron Wan Bissaka nor Donny van de Beek are in good enough shape to play for an extended period of time at the moment. McTominay and Fred, on the other hand, have had a relatively successful season and are deserving of starting roles in the middle of the field. Additionally, it might be an interesting experiment to play Eriksen in the No. 10 position while giving Fernandes a break.
In the forward position, Ronaldo needs to improve his confidence and score more goals. The same can be said about Sancho and Elanga, and Pellistri and Garnacho definitely deserve some playing time off the bench during the second half of the match.
