The graduate of the academy, who is originally from Bradford, was scheduled to answer bail following his arrest in January on April 30 of this year; in order to do so, he is required to appear at a police station. However, the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) announced a day before that they would be applying to the courts to extend his bail.
"Following a hearing yesterday (Thursday 23 June 2022), a 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape, assault, and making threats to kill on Sunday 30 January 2022 remains on bail," the GMP said in a statement back then.
"Because the results of bail reviews do not have any bearing on the progression of investigations, Greater Manchester Police will not be providing any further updates in relation to this case until the suspect is either charged or released with no further action," said the spokesperson.
In the aftermath of the court hearing that took place behind closed doors, a date for the expiration of his bail was not provided.
Greenwood is currently serving a suspension from Manchester United and has not played for the club since their match against West Ham United in the Premier League on January 22 of this year. Nike has confirmed that their partnership with the forward has come to an end, following the company's initial decision to suspend their relationship with the forward.
In a previous statement, Manchester United stated that although he is still a member of the club, he is not currently training with the team "while the legal process unfolds." The club has stated that it will not be commenting on the reports of Greenwood's arrest that have surfaced today.
