The Manchester United defender discussed the unsatisfactory performance by Erik ten Hag's team at Old Trafford and shared his thoughts on the match.
After Manchester United's game against Newcastle United, which ended in a scoreless tie at Old Trafford, Luke Shaw stated that the team "needs to be winning these games."
Marcus Rashford and Fred were both deemed to be guilty of wasting wonderful opportunities to win the match for Erik ten Hag's team, which resulted in the team not being able to win all three points in front of their home fans. Fred's effort to put the ball into an empty net after Rashford had dribbled past Newcastle's goalkeeper Nick Pope to set up the midfielder was inexplicably unsuccessful. The Brazilian should have put the ball into an empty net after Rashford had dribbled past Pope to set up the midfielder.
Rashford had the potential to become United's game-winner in the dying stages of the game, but his header from the edge of the six-yard box also missed the target. Rashford had the chance to become United's game-winner.
Shaw, who is 27 years old, was given the starting nod for the second consecutive Premier League game in place of Tyrell Malacia, and the 27-year-old contributed to Manchester United keeping their third clean sheet of the league season. After the game, Shaw gave an interview to Sky Sports, in which he discussed the disappointing outcome for Ten Hag's team and how difficult it was to accept.
Shaw said: "I believe that, on the whole, I should be disappointed [with the result]. We have to be winning games like this at home, especially as a team if we are going to achieve what we want to achieve and get to where we want to be. I believe that games like today are really important opportunities to pick up three points; unfortunately, we were unable to accomplish that today, which is frustrating; nevertheless, as you know, we have another vital game on Wednesday, so we need to put all of our attention on that."
Shaw responded, "Yeah, of course, but I believe it was expected," when asked if it was difficult for United to handle with the rapid start the Magpies had to the encounter. "Yes, of course," he replied. If you've been keeping up with Newcastle this season, you probably already know that they play at a very high intensity level, with a lot of aggression, and that they retrieve the ball very quickly.
"So we were aware that we needed to be quick with possession, and I believe there were a handful of moments when we were definitely caught out, but we didn't give up any goals. They were extremely risky while defending set pieces, but I believe there is potential for improvement in open play.
