In spite of attention from Barcelona, Diogo Dalot wants to continue playing for Manchester United.
Now that he is in the final year of his contract with United, Barcelona has Dalot, who is 23 years old, on their radar as a possible right-back acquisition. The club does have the option of signing Dalot for an additional year.
Even though Dalot is the only outfield player who has started all 13 of United's games this season, the club has not yet begun contract renewal talks with Dalot, despite the fact that Dalot's preference is to sign a renewal with United.
The Portugal national team player is also drawing attention from Juventus, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Roma, all of which are interested in signing him.
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager of Manchester United two years ago, Milan signed Dalot to a season-long loan during that time, and the Italian club sought to re-sign Dalot last year when Borussia Dortmund was also inquiring about him. Earlier on in this year, Atletico made touch with United regarding Dalot.
The only reason that United maintained Dalot under Solskjaer was because they were unable to recruit Kieran Trippier from Atletico, and the Norwegian's dismissal in November gave Dalot the opportunity to displace the struggling Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Dalot had his most involved season with United last term, starting 24 games, and he has been injury-free for the last two years. Dalot's most involved season with United was last term.
While United boss Erik ten Hag started Dalot in all five of the first team's preseason friendly, Wan-Bissaka has only seen four minutes of action in competitive play so far.
Wan-Bissaka was notified before the end of the previous season that he was free to depart, but there were no takers for his services, therefore United are now the owners of the £50 million right-back.
If United had been able to offload Wan-Bissaka, Ten Hag would have been interested in signing Barca right defender Sergino Dest, but the United States international signed a loan deal with Milan instead. Wan-Bissaka has been unable to play due to an injury that has kept him out of action for the past six weeks.
