Two years and thirteen days, seven players included on the roster, and no appearances. Although Facundo Pellistri has scored in a Manchester United shirt before (against Derby and Liverpool in Bangkok), he has not yet been used in a game that counts toward the team's official record for goals scored in a competitive setting.

It has been exactly two years to the day that Pellistri warmed the bench for United against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes, and he is still waiting to get off it. Thursday marks the anniversary of that day.

Pellistri did start for the Under-21s when they played Barrow in the EFL Trophy at the beginning of the month. This was his third appearance overall in the campaign. Spending the night on Holker Street is not the best way to be ready for the World Cup.

Pellistri is a full-fledged member of the Uruguay national team and was a part of their most recent roster. Despite the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag have not used him, Pellistri is a right winger. Pellistri received exposure during two distinct loan spells with Alaves; nonetheless, it was insufficient, since he only started six games in the previous season.

Since making his debut in January, he already has seven caps to his name. Pellistri will not turn 21 until the month of December, and it is a strange coincidence that, like his colleague Guillermo Varela, he has been waiting for more than two years to make his debut for United.

United paid Penarol €10 million to acquire Pellistri on the final day of the transfer window in 2020, and that day, along with the window, has become more dated than Julian Glover in The Last Crusade.

Amad is currently playing for Sunderland on loan, and Donny van de Beek was loaned out after 18 months of service with the club. Edinson Cavani played only when he felt like it, and Alex Telles reached his full potential on the day he made his debut. Four loanees and one departure.

Right-sided forwards Amad and Pellistri, the former of which is left-footed and the latter of which is a rightie, were brought in to compensate for the club's inability to pry Jadon Sancho away from Borussia Dortmund. Pellistri was the only member of the aforementioned quintet to be selected for the match against Newcastle. This marked his third consecutive appearance in the matchday 20 squad for a Premier League game.

After making his debut with United's first team in a preseason game at Pride Park in July of the previous year, Pellistri's odd tenure at the club became very clear. After he had scored the game-winning goal, Solskjaer was giving an interview to MUTV pitch-side in which he expressed his desire to remain with the club. At the same time, he was telling the press that another loan was going to be arranged for Pellistri.
