There is no denying that Manchester United are still a very long way from being the finished product, despite the fact that the progress that they have made under Erik ten Hag in the most recent weeks has been nothing short of astounding.
United moved to within one point of the Champions League places as a result of their hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday. This victory was United's third in their last five Premier League matches, and it moved them to the position where they are breathing down the neck of fourth-placed Newcastle United. The Reds made significant progress in October, providing additional evidence that the team is beginning to accept Ten Hag's strategies and become more receptive to his guiding philosophy. It is fair to say that Manchester United's comeback since the beginning of the season, with the exception of a minor hiccup against Manchester City in the derby, has been impressive. After suffering losses to Brighton and Brentford at the very beginning of the season, which left them atop the league table just two games in, it is fair to say that United have been propping up the table ever since. The Reds have turned in some slick and stylish performances, as well as some dogged and determined ones, the most recent of which came against the Hammers the weekend before last.
United's recent victories, although they have all been team efforts, have seen the vast majority of Ten Hag's summer signings play their part. As a result, the Dutchman should be recognized for his brave decisions on the recruitment front, which means that he should be commended for his work in the transfer market. Ten Hag was called into question as he pursued big-money deals for the Ajax duo of Lisandro Martinez and Antony. Both of these players have been excellent since making the move from Amsterdam to Manchester. At the same time, Christian Eriksen, who was snatched up on a free transfer from Brentford, and Casemiro have transformed the landscape of United's midfield. Casemiro and Eriksen have been excellent.
The first few encouraging signs have been appearing, particularly in recent times, during a summer in which it was necessary for United to make amends for previous failures and begin anew. Nevertheless, recruitment plans are already being put in place for 2023, which is the year that will see United begin phase two of their squad rebuilding project under Ten Hag. This is the case in spite of the progress that the club has made so far this season.
Even though the club is not actively pursuing any incomings for the January transfer window, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, the upcoming summer will mark another important juncture in United's attempt to bring success back to Old Trafford. In football, as we all know all too well, it is pointless to try to predict what could happen between now and next May, but it is believed that United are planning to recruit a right-back, a new striker, and a midfielder as part of the next phase of their rebuilding.
In the most recent transfer window, United broke the record spending $225,4 million, giving Ten Hag plenty of new, high-quality players to work with. However, this will most likely limit how much he is able to spend in the upcoming windows, beginning with the summer of next year.
Even though Frenkie de Jong recently stated that he has no plans to leave Barcelona, it is likely that he will be a player that is linked with United again. This is because Ten Hag was so eager to be reunited with him at Old Trafford in the summer, and because of that, it is likely that Frenkie de Jong will be a player that is linked with United again. If this is the case, the club has the possibility of bolstering their midfield options without having to spend any money, similar to how they did when they brought in Eriksen in July.
This is due to the fact that there is still time left on Youri Tielemans' contract with Leicester City. His contract at the King Power Stadium is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign, and there is a growing consensus that he is not going to extend his commitment to the club beyond the current campaign. It is believed that an offer has been made to the Belgium international player for some time now; however, he has not as of yet put pen to paper on a contract.
