The governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, says it is within the province of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to redesign naira notes from time to time.

Soludo also said that Anambra State will appropriately adjust and respond to the new policy by the Central Bank, adding that his State has no problem with that.

The former Central Bank governor made the statement while fielding questions on the Channels TV Politics Today programme on Thursday evening.

His statement comes days after CBN governor announced the redesigning of naira notes.

He said he would not comment on the policies of his successor at the apex bank, emphasizing that it is within the responsibility of it to do so.

“I told you not to push me. I am not going to, as a former governor of the Central Bank, I resist and I will resist you commenting on the policies of my successor in the office in whatever form and whatever way you put it.

“Anambra will respond as appropriate. Whatever circumstances that ride out from the central, the managerial authorities and physical authorities at the centre, whatever thing they decide and throw up and that is a national policy, be sure that Anambra will appropriately adjust and respond; so we have no problem with that,” he said.

He added, “By the way, in my own time, I got the naira redesigned. Just to make this point, I redesigned the N5, N10, N20, and N50 denominations and we got them in polymer; at least N5, N10, and N20.

“So it is not anything new. And I also introduced the N1000 note. Certainly, it is within the province of the Central Bank to redesign notes from time to time. It might be for security features, it might be for some other considerations. I am not here to speculate on the substance of their policies”.
