On Sunday evening, Premier League action saw Manchester United come out on top against Fulham thanks to a goal scored by Alejandro Garnacho.
As negotiations for a new contract continue, Manchester United are confident that Alejandro Garnacho will remain with the club in the foreseeable future.
The 18-year-old forward scored his first goal for the club in the Premier League on Sunday when he came off the bench to score a dramatic game-winning goal for United against Fulham.Garnacho did not sign his first professional contract until the month that he turned 17, which was in July of last year. The deal is set to expire in 2024, but the club has the option to extend it for one more year.
According to our sources, United are content with the status of Garnacho's current contract due to the length of his current deal; however, they are eager to reward their latest academy star for his development by offering him a new contract.
His current contract has a number of performance-based triggers, each of which, once activated, will result in a permanent increase in his salary. Since he signed the contract the previous year, Garnacho has already activated a few of the options that were available to him.
The winger has had a phenomenal year, as he was called up to the Argentina squad, scored seven goals in six games during United's triumphant FA Youth Cup campaign, and went on the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. All of these accomplishments contributed to United's victory in the FA Youth Cup.
The young player was the subject of numerous loan offers during the summer transfer window, with the most concrete proposals coming from Spain; however, it was ultimately decided that he would continue his development at United and not leave on a loan.
Garnacho scored his first goal as a senior player in the win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League two weeks ago. His second goal as a senior player came in the waning seconds of the match at Craven Cottage over the weekend.
The young winger moved to Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for a transfer fee of £420,000 as part of a recruitment drive that resulted in the club signing three young players from Spain. Marc Jurado and Alvaro Fernandez were the other two young players who moved to United from Barcelona and Real Madrid, respectively.
Nick Cox, Head of Academy, was crucial in selling the move to his family. In particular, he had to convince them why a move to English football was the right step at such a young age. Football director John Murtough played a pivotal role in securing the deal, while Head of Academy Nick Cox played a pivotal role in selling the move to his family.
Garnacho, who played for Spain when he was younger but is eligible to play for Argentina because of his mother, rejected a contract offer from Borussia Dortmund in order to sign with United two years ago. His mother is an Argentine citizen.
In May, he was given the honor of being named United's U18 Player of the Year, making him the fourth player in recent years to receive this distinction after Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford, and Angel Gomes.
