Manchester United will be seeking to finish the season on a high note when they go to Brighton on Saturday evening for their penultimate home game of the season. Ralf Rangnick's side have been out of form for much of the season, but they will be looking to build on their win over Brentford at the start of the week by claiming another three points at the end of the week.
With seven wins in a row in all competitions against Brighton, United have amassed the club's longest active winning streak against another current Premier League team.
When it comes to early team news, Harry Maguire is expected to return to the Manchester United squad, but Marcus Rashford will be absent from the squad.
Since Alex Telles has been assisting from corners for three months already, Alvaro Fernandez's debut has been a waste of time.
Scott McTominay was fortunate to get the start in the middle of the week, but he struggled once more. Nemanja Matic should be reunited with his former teammate, Fred. Against Brentford, Juan Mata must start, Anthony Elanga can continue, and Bruno Fernandes has finally done something- enough to almost earn a place in the team- to justify his inclusion.
two changes
At Old Trafford on Monday night, Tyrone Marshall Matic and Juan Mata bid their farewells with emotion, and United's injury woes mean they're likely to have a few of more games left in them.
Regardless of whether or not Maguire is healthy, the back four should remain unchanged. He plainly requires a break, and that break may begin immediately. Fernandez is in desperate need of a first-team opportunity, but he can make his debut off the bench at the expense of Telles.
Even if McTominay has been performing below expectations recently, the club believes it is more important to work on regaining his confidence so that he can start alongside Fred in midfield, with Mata assuming the role of advanced midfielder once again.
There is benefit in giving Garnacho 10 or 15 minutes, but he shouldn't start. This week's focus is on the Youth Cup final. The absence of Rashford results in the same starting lineup as on Monday night: Fernandes, Elanga, and Ronaldo.
The South Coast could need some new blood, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards anytime soon. United preserved a clean sheet in their previous match, but if Maguire is available, he will almost certainly replace Lindelof.
A return to midfield for Fred would be well-deserved, since he has been sorely missed by his teammates there. Because McTominay will be with the club next season, it is worthwhile to give him another opportunity in a defensive role.
Given Garnacho's involvement in the FA Youth Cup the following week, Elanga is given the nod on the left wing in the hope of regaining his confidence in the process. Mata was outstanding against Brighton and deserves to get another chance to prove himself, even if he is simply going to depart for nothing.
