The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has declared that the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to win the 2023 election without Rivers would only depend on God’s decision.
Speaking with some selected journalists in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Friday, Wike who was asked to comment on the insinuation that Atiku would win without his state, said “if God has decided that he (Atiku) will be president nothing anyone can do about it.
He, however, said the current reality indicated that Atiku may depend on Rivers to win the election, stressing that the most populated states, Lagos and Kano would not favour the former vice president.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari won the 2019 presidential election without Rivers State because he won in Lagos and other highly populated states.
DAILY POST reports that following the outcome of the PDP presidential election, Wike and his loyalists in the party had demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
However, Ayu’s refusal to resign plunged the entire party into chaos as members of the party who are loyal to Wike pulled out of Atiku’s campaign council.
