It's Possible That Apple Is Developing Its Own Version of the Metaverse Along the Lines of 'Horizon Worlds'
On November 13, Apple published a set of job postings that may provide some insight into the path the firm is planning to take in terms of metaverse technology. These listings could be seen here.
According to Bloomberg, the company is currently looking for engineers to develop content for its upcoming virtual reality headset. This headset, which according to reports will have high-definition displays, a set of more than ten cameras, and will pack Apple's latest M2 chip, which is one of the quickest in the industry, will reportedly be available sometime in the near future.
One of the job postings makes a direct request for engineers who are familiar with the process of creating a 3D mixed-reality environment. This move could indicate that Apple is already working on its own iteration of a metaverse platform similar to Meta's Horizon Worlds, where users can meet, interact with one another, and build their own worlds.
According to the job description, the engineers who are chosen for the position will "develop tools and frameworks to allow linked experiences in a 3D mixed-reality world."
One of the positions available is for engineers who will be responsible for developing a 3D video platform that will host material that is compatible with devices used for virtual reality experiences. The report that was released on November 11 by Technavio on the subject of the future of the metaverse in entertainment also predicts the rise of such experiences and foresees that this will become a trend in the coming years, fueling the growth of the interactive film industry.
Concerns Regarding Apple's Use of the Metaverse
There has been some hesitation on the part of the corporation and its management over the use of the term "metaverse" to refer to the collection of distinct virtual experiences that are available today. Apple's Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook, is of the opinion that the phrase is far too vague and can be used in a variety of different ways.
According to what Cook said to the newspaper Bright:
It has always been very essential to me that people have a solid comprehension of what it is that they are looking at. To add insult to injury, I seriously doubt that the typical person is aware of what the metaverse is.
Cook, on the other hand, is an ardent supporter of augmented reality (AR) and the potential benefits it may bring to early adopters of the technology. He has described AR as "a profound technology that will affect everything."
