This guide covers the entirety of World of Warcraft Shadowlands Engineering modifications and updates. It also includes new bombs and blasters. Belt improvements are also included.
Engineering Changes in Battle for Azeroth to Shadowlands
Engineers could experience an "techno-magic breakthrough", which will make a variety of engineering devices more powerful, but much more difficult to control. Backfires can be catastrophic! Increased skill in Engineering also reduces the chance of backfires.
Engineering Optional Reagents can have beneficial effects, like increasing swim speed or improving your primary stats to be able to complete World Quests.
Engineered goggles don't just have great stats and awesome good looks, but will increase by 20 your engineering skill.
There are many fun new devices that make a comeback with all the suicidal negative effects you've been used to from best goblin and gnomish engineering.
Shadowlands, like BfA will have an exclusive mechanical auction house specifically for engineers. The Photonic Gearhaggle can be found near the Engineering Trainer in the Hall of Shapes, Oribos.
What is Engineering useful to do in Shadowlands?
What's not to like about Engineering in particular when they're bringing back all the unpredictability of backfires as well as catastrophes?
Engineering comes back to Shadowlands with a wide array of useful items that you can make and use, such as Optional Reagents as well as the most popular, a product which can help revive players.
Belt improvements are back, however, you're only able to apply them to yourself.
Oribos once again has an auctioneer only engineers can use.
Making Gold through Engineering in Shadowlands
There are a few useful engineering devices that anyone can make use of, including the 50UL-TR4P Gravimetric Scrambler Cannon, and Momentum Redistributor Boots. The ability to slash enemies and then throw them in various directions, or to jump on to enemies' heads from afar will make havoc. It will also be fun to play in PvP. These are essential for Battlegrounds. Tell your friends!
The PHA7YNX is an engineering-only pet. It will be rare for a while because the recipe demands Exalted reputation, and very high material requirements.
Learning Shadowlands Engineering
Shadowlands Engineering can be learned from Machinist Au'gur (38.1 and 44.7) Au'gur (38.1 and 44.7) is the Engineering Trainer at the Hall of Shapes (Oribos), the hub city of Shadowlands. You will find Distributor Au'burk within the area selling Engineering materials. The majority of Engineering recipes are taught by Machinist Au'gur. You will also find the Photonic Gearhaggle, an auctioneer available only to Engineers! You only need an Engineering level of 1 to use it; you don't even have to be familiar with Shadowlands Engineering.
The Engineering area of the Hall of Shapes does not contain any Anvils or Forges. You'll need to travel a short distance north to the blacksmithing/mining area to find these items (noted on the map below).
Engineering skill in Shadowlands is ranging from 1-100.
Engineering Schematics and Reputations
These factions are licensed to sell Engineering schematics.

Schematic: PHA7YNX - Requires Exalted with the Ascended

Crafter's Mark III -- requires Honored With Death's Advance
Crafter's Mark of The Chained Islands - Tier 4 research required with The Archivists Codex
Shadowlands Engineering Parts
Shadowlands Engineering Raw Materials
Shadowlands includes a variety of mined ore and items, in addition to one type of stone used to make Engineering components and finished products. They can be obtained by you using mining skills or bought through the Auction House.
Shadowlands Engineering Goggles
Each pair of Goggles will boost the level of your Shadowlands Engineering by 20, and lets you see far away. All Goggles are iLevel 165 and a minimal level of 60. We can't trust this technology to novice users.
Shadowlands Engineering Pet
The thing that is fascinating about this pet schematic is that it meets the minimum requirement of Engineering (115) to be able to design. However, Shadowlands currently limits Engineering skill to 100.
Gnomes with +15 to Engineering skill racial are able to make this pet with an initial skill of 100 and no changes. To create this pet, other races will need to purchase the set of Shadowlands Ectoplasmic Specs glasses. These glasses improve Engineering skill by 20.
Schematic: PHA7YNX purchased with Exalted popularity from The Ascended in Bastion.
Shadowlands Engineering Optional Reagents
Shadowlands introduces a variety of new modifications to professions. One of it is Optional Reagents. With Optional Reagents, players can modify their weapons, armor and jewellery.
All Professions are equipped with Crafter's Marks. They are Optional Reagents for increasing iLevel on crafted items. The two first ones are trained in the Novice's Crafter's Mark as well as Crafter's Mark I.
Cordial with Ve'nari in The Maw is required for Crafter's Mark II. Crafter's Mark III requires Honored with Death's Progress in Korthia, and Crafter's Mark of the Chained Isle requires Tier 4 research level with The Archivists' Codex found in Korthia.
Leveling Engineering in Shadowlands
The great thing is that you can level up Engineering most often by crafting the necessary components to create almost every higher level item in Engineering. It's actually going to require a lot more Porous Polishing Abrasive and the Laestrite Bolts the items you'll require to advance from 1-25.
Specs are the last thing you'll be making. They increase your engineering skills by 20 and makes it much easier to create them. These are required unless you are Gnome. The pet PHA7-YNX is one of the most valuable items that Shadowlands Engineering can create.
There is a resemblance between Scopes and Specs. Scopes are green by the age of 92 and Specs will be accessible at 90. You can choose where to change based on the materials you have available.
Shadowlands Engineering World Quests
Each Covenant zone comes with their own Engineering World quests. You must possess a Shadowlands Engineering skill of at minimum 25 to be available. Completing these quests will reward you with +1 Engineering fame, and experience with your local zone faction.
If you're following the normal storyline These quests will not be available until World Quests open at level 60. Characters leveling through Threads of Fate with the required level of skill can complete them starting at level 50, after selecting their Covenant and selecting the first area of questing.
To get the most benefit of easy learning points, experience points and credit towards zone's completions, I would suggest that you level through Threads of Fate as soon as you can.
