Bing's AI Chatbot Receives Numerous New Features, Including Video Responses

Microsoft is adding a variety of new features to its Bing chatbot to make it more useful and accessible to a wider audience.

The company announced on Thursday that it will transition from text-only search and conversation to a more multimodal approach, with rich image and video responses coming soon. Bing can already generate images based on text queries, but this feature will enable the bot to display images and videos when responding to a question or simply conversing about nothing. According to Microsoft, this visual data will include charts, graphs, and more. Image generation also receives a boost, launching in over a hundred new languages.

Microsoft also removed the chatbot's training wheels and added multi-session memory. Since its inception, users have been limited to a certain number of messaging prompts before the bot resets and forgets the previous conversation. Now, you'll be able to search through your entire chat history, and more crucially, Bing will gradually add context from previous conversations to personalize chats. Ultimately, if a chatbot is to assist you, it should know who you are.

The company will also make the bot accessible to more consumers. Microsoft now allows third parties to create tools and apps on top of Bing for added functionality, and the waitlist has been completely eliminated. In other terms, you can use Bing immediately, regardless of your location.

Other minor enhancements include the option to export chat logs to social media, enhanced summarization capabilities, and the ability to submit videos to search the web for relevant content. Microsoft claims that this is only the beginning. The company claims it will modify the chatbot weekly by incorporating the most requested features and enhancements and by "adding new experiences."
