Bruno Fernandes sent direct 14-word message to Man Utd and ruled out ‘promise

After extending his stay at Old Trafford this summer, Bruno Fernandes, a midfielder for Portugal, has been open and honest about his talks with Manchester United.

Since joining Manchester United from Sporting CP in 2020, the 29-year-old has been a crucial member of the first squad.

Bruno Fernandes, who cost the Premier League team an initial £47 million to sign from Sporting CP, has made a huge impression while playing.

The Red Devils midfielder has made 235 appearances, scoring 79 goals and dishing out 67 assists, all while exerting significant influence on the game.

After Harry Maguire was stripped of the team's armband by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag last summer, Fernandes became the captain of United in 2023.

The Portugal international has won the FA Cup and the League Cup during his stay with the team, making him possibly United's best acquisition in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Fernandes’ message to Man Utd

After signing a new contract with Manchester United this summer, Bruno Fernandes put an end to rumors about his future there.

Prior to signing a contract extension that extends until June 2027, the United captain's original deal was scheduled to expire in 2026.

After taking over as United captain from Harry Maguire the previous season, Fernandes came under fire for his actions and behavior on the field.

Despite continuing to be a vital member of United's squad, the former Sporting CP star also came under increasing criticism for his performance and consistency in the 2023–24 campaign.

Despite the criticism, Erik ten Hag remained loyal to Fernandes, and the Portugal midfielder will continue to play for the Dutchman in the long run.

Fernandes reiterated that he told the Red Devils that they could not "promise" to him that United would win the league in an interview with Manchester United's official website.

The captain of the Red Devils, though, desired to play for a United squad that can "compete" and stay "competitive" throughout a season.

Fernandes stated, "The club knew that I want to compete with the best teams."

They were aware that the team needed to be strengthened. And I believe we are accomplishing that.

"Of course, I told them that I didn't need your assurance that we would win the league. Since nobody is able to guarantee that.

"But at least now we have a team that can fight throughout the season, try to win something, and compete at the highest levels."

"The club is probably doing that," The goal is to increase the number of talented players on the team and to increase competition so that players are vying for spots.

“But my first choice was always to stay at the club. It was not even demands, but the things that I wanted to see: the club going forward, [so] I could see a future on that.

“To be honest, I look now and I see that the club is making an effort for that.”

Fernandes on committing to Man Utd

Fernandes reaffirmed that he is happy being in England and that he now feels a particular bond with Manchester.

"My wife and I said, 'It feels like home,' when we first got back to Manchester," he remarked.

It's a powerful statement to make, especially from my perspective, as I genuinely adore my city and my country.

Therefore, it means a lot to me to say that and to hear my wife say, "It feels like home here."

"Because I cherish the time I get to spend in Portugal, I cherish my friends and family.

And it's truly something amazing to feel the same way while I'm here.
