Manchester United are open to any and all suggestions for the rebuilding of Old Trafford, including the ambitious ambitions to completely redevelop the stadium on its current location.
There are still discussions taking place between the club and planners about prospective development plans for the site, and the club is leaving all options open, including the possibility of extending the south stand over the railway lines and entirely redeveloping the stadium. Despite the fact that the club has not yet selected a preferred partner for the project, the planners bidding for the contract have submitted a variety of proposals, and club executives are maintaining an open mind at this point in the process.
"With regard to stadium development, we have been assessing the capabilities of globally-leading consultants who want to assist us in developing a Masterplan for the modernisation of Old Trafford, with the ultimate goal of improving the matchday experience for fans," said Collette Roche, chief operating officer of Manchester United. We have visited with representatives from a wide range of industries, including architecture, engineering, construction, crowd modeling, transportation, and security, among others, during our travels.
Phase 1 of the project, which will focus on developing the Masterplan's vision and objectives, will begin in the coming weeks after we have selected our preferred partners.
Old Trafford has been given a wide range of ideas on how to be brought back up to par with the best clubs in the Premier League by Manchester United. Old Trafford is clearly in need of an overhaul after Arsenal and Tottenham's new stadiums set the norm.
As part of the process, United has promised to consult with fans. The construction would be done in stages, allowing them to continue using Old Trafford as usual.
