After speaking with Avram Glazer, Man United's stance on having their own cricket team has been clarified.

In the United Arab Emirates, Avram Glazer, the co-chairman of Manchester United, met with Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

The Manchester Evening News has learned that Manchester United have no plans to establish their own cricket club, despite claims that co-chairman Avram Glazer was contemplating the idea following a trip to the United Arab Emirates, according to sources.

In a meeting with Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum yesterday [Thursday], Glazer, who has only attended one United game since the start of the 2019/20 season, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. Following the meeting, the latter revealed in a tweet that they discussed "UAE T20 Cricket league launch in January 2023 with Manchester United cricket squad and other clubs."

He shared the following on Twitter: "I had a meeting with Avram Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United, today, and we talked about how we could collaborate to elevate Dubai's status as a worldwide athletic powerhouse even further. We also talked about the UAE T20 Cricket League, which will begin in January 2023 and feature clubs such as the Manchester United cricket team and others."

However, MEN Sport knows that United have no intentions to establish a cricket team, despite the fact that Mansoor bin Mohammed, the chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, has suggested that it may be on the cards in the not-to-distant future. It is known that Glazer was approached with the concept, but that the club has decided not to pursue it further.

Aside from the fact that they were both owned by the same company, the idea of forming a cricket franchise had nothing to do with United. As a result, it is in the same vein as the fact that the Glazers control the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have no direct connection to their ownership of United, but who are owned by the Glazers in a different capacity.

After failing to purchase an Indian Premier League [IPL] team in the previous year, it was revealed in December that Glazer had purchased a UAE Twenty20 team instead. Glazer said at the time that he was "thrilled" to have taken the plunge into the sport.

He stated, "I'm not going to lie, I'm not going to lie." "I am overjoyed to have been invited to be a member of the UAE T20 team from its inception. The UAE T20 is expected to be a world-class event that will have a significant impact on the development of cricket in the United Arab Emirates."

Even though it was not stated at the time, Mansoor bin Mohammed's Twitter message has suggested that the club will be called in collaboration with the Manchester United football club. However, as previously mentioned, there would be no direct connection between the club and the Premier League.

During the current season, Glazer has only attended one game, the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United at Old Trafford in September. Following his return to Real Madrid, that was, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo's second appearance for the club.
