Despite the fact that the Hammers may have to let him go, the England international has been a world-class performer for the club and a guy they don't want to lose.
This summer, ESPN has been reporting that Manchester United is interested in signing Rice; the Sun claims he's asking $120 million.
A new contract is unlikely for the 23-year-old, however, as West Ham manager Chris Brown believes he's wanting to see what life is like outside of the club before signing on for another year.
"I don't think he's the type of person who will try to push his way out with a formal transfer request or any specific demands, but they've reached a point where he's unlikely to sign a new deal because he wants to see how things go," Brown explained.
Manchester United should take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Rice, as the club is in need of upgrades to players like Fred and Scott McTominay, while Paul Pogba is reaching the conclusion of his Old Trafford deal.
