Anthony Martial, the Manchester United loanee who was jeered off the field in his most recent appearance, appears to have exhausted the patience of a huge section of the Sevilla faithful.
Real Sociedad held Sevilla to a 0-0 draw in La Liga on Sunday, with the attacker being replaced with less than an hour remaining. Sevilla are presently in second place in the table. The 26-year-old made his first league appearance since returning from injury on Thursday, having playing 102 minutes in the 2-1 aggregate extra-time defeat to West Ham in the Europa League Last 16 on Wednesday.
Martial has only scored once in eight games for Sevilla, and he is failed to score in the Spanish league this season. Barcelona fans were less than delighted with the attacker's performance on Sunday, which allowed the club to cut the gap on Real Madrid to three points following their stunning 4-0 victory in the El Clasico against the Spanish giants.
As reported by Sport, certain sections of the stadium cheered Martial's goal, while the majority whistled as he was substituted by Youssef En-Nesyri after the match. Additionally, according to the article, the United faithful have been underwhelmed by the forward's loan spell, which has resulted in only one goal and one assist in eight games.
Prior to his temporary transfer to Spain, Martial had made just five appearances for Manchester United this season. Even though he has started four of the five games in which he has appeared, the France international has yet to play for the entire 90 minutes in La Liga.
With a new manager expected to take over at Manchester United this summer, there are still worries over Martial's long-term future. His contract with the club expires in June 2024, however if he and the club decide to part ways, this shop window period may have an impact on the price at which he can be sold.
