Edinson Cavani, a striker for Manchester United, discusses the influence Diego Forlan had on his career.

2010 World Cup finals saw Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan team up for Uruguay.

It was Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan who helped Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani break onto the world stage. Additionally, the two frontmen represented Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they both played.

Cavani left Paris Saint-Germain in 2020 after scoring a record 200 goals in seven seasons at the club. When it comes to Premier League goals this season, the 35-year-old has managed just two in the top flight, while Cristiano Ronaldo, the five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, continues to take the spotlight.

However, the former Palermo and Napoli star still poses a significant danger at the top level, as he demonstrated during his first season at Old Trafford. Old Trafford icons from fierce rivals Liverpool will play a charity match at Old Trafford in May with Forlan as a mentor.

Cavani said in an interview with MUFC media: "I had the good fortune to share the stage with Diego. At the beginning of our development as football players, it was wonderful to witness players like Diego who had already earned a name for themselves.

"Because they were the kind of guys you'd keep an eye on back home in the hopes that one day you'd be able to play like them, too.

"As a result, playing with him was both a pleasure and an honor for me. With the World Cup finals in South Africa, we also had the opportunity to play together in crucial qualifying matches. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I'll cherish those memories forever."
