Cristiano Ronaldo and a former teammate have a resurrected quarrel from the past.

In an Instagram post, Cristiano Ronaldo retaliated against his former Manchester United colleague Wayne Rooney, who had made a remark about the Portuguese star's return to Old Trafford.

Rooney was a guest on Sky Sports' Match of the Day (MNF) for their coverage of Arsenal's Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace, and during the breakdown of United's draw with Leicester City the day before, the former England captain was inevitably asked about the presence at Old Trafford of the man he once shared the field with during their time together.

There is no doubt that Cristiano is getting older. He said this through GOAL: The player he was in his 20s is a far cry from what he is now. And when that happens, that's what football is all about. Despite the fact that he is a goal threat, I believe the rest of the team requires more, namely young, eager players."

With both commentators and fans decrying his signing, many believe it has pushed United backwards in the Premier League. Because of his age, the 37-year-old has scored some significant goals for the Red Devils this season, but he has struggled to maintain consistency and has failed to demonstrate the work rate anticipated in the modern game.

In response to Rooney's comments, Ronaldo, who is known for having a large ego, expressed his displeasure by commenting on one of the Englishman's Instagram images with the phrase "two jealous."

The fact that Rooney is 37 years old and has the right to express himself on the subject seems a little petty, especially considering that he did not say anything particularly objectionable.

After Ronaldo begged with a referee to dismiss Rooney during their meeting at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the pair's relationship has been strained in the past. It's possible the feud was never totally forgotten and has now resurfaced as a result of this.
