Gary Neville outlines Donny van de Beek's idea as to why Erik ten Hag would turn down the Man Utd job.

Because of Gary Neville's explanation, Erik ten Hag may not be the right fit for Manchester United's manager's job.

According to former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, future Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag should be on the phone with Donny van de Beek to figure out what it's actually like to be a United fan at Old Trafford.

When asked about Liverpool's dreadful 1-0 loss to Everton on Saturday afternoon, Neville admitted as much in his latest Sky Sports podcast, which you can listen to here. Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the game to give the Toffees a fighting chance of surviving and to bring United's season to yet another new low.

With Tottenham Hotspur six points clear of Liverpool in the Premier League table, the Reds' hopes of finishing in the top four this season are now hanging by a thread. A new beginning and a massive clean out are two things United is eagerly anticipating this summer.

The former Manchester United captain, though, is worried about the impact Ten Hag could have on the position he could enter. The Dutchman is the clear favorite to take over as manager at Old Trafford ahead of the 2019-20 season, and Ajax management expects him to make the switch.

Neville, on the other hand, has expressed his reservations, citing United's previous failures and how they could deter the Dutchman from taking over.

According to Neville, "If you look at what they're doing to guys at Manchester United, now, there isn't a player that has grown." "Just look at what they did to Van de Beek," says the author.

'How is it doing over there, Donny?' you wonder if you're Ten Hag on the phone with Van de Beek." Surely he isn't going to offer something constructive, is he?" Rather than financial pressures, I believe that Ten Hag's demands are under control.

It is likely that he will want to come in and not be subjected to the same things that other managers have been exposed to in the last ten years when it comes to recruitment, organizational structure, and young, and I believe he will want to come in and not be exposed to the same things that other managers have been exposed to. That might be too much for Manchester United to handle, and I expect them to have a difficult week or two ahead of them.

In spite of the news that came in this morning [Sunday] that Ten Hag has placed demands on the club that are possibly above and beyond, I still believe they will get it over the finish line." However, we are unsure whether or not we should believe everything.

"However, nowadays, when things come out from the trustworthy sources that we're seeing, there are usually more than one area of concern. Nevertheless, if they are not able to get him over the line, imagine the position Manchester United will be in if they are unable to bring in a manager who wants to come in because of his demands on the way the football club is operated."
