Despite being knocked out by Real Madrid, Chelsea manage to accomplish something that has only occurred once before.

However, despite being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Wednesday night, Chelsea made themselves proud with a 3-2 second-leg win at the Bernabeu.

After falling behind 3-1 in the first leg, the Blues surged into a 3-0 lead with a dominant performance in Madrid. They were also a little unlucky to have Marcos Alonso's goal disallowed for handball, but it was ultimately the correct judgment.

Even though Real Madrid won 5-4 on aggregate, Chelsea made history by scoring three goals away from home in a Champions League quarter-final tie against Spain's mighty La Liga heavyweights.

As stated in the tweet above by Opta Joe, the only other time this has occurred was in 1968, when Manchester United managed to hold Real Madrid to a 3-3 draw away at Old Trafford.

Chelsea came tantalizingly close to pulling off a major shock, and this statistic sums up what a remarkable performance it was on the part of Thomas Tuchel's team, even if they did not advance to the next round.
