After suffering an injury setback, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is wearing a protective boot.

After being forced off the field against Leicester due to an injury, the Manchester United defender underwent surgery to have bolts removed from his leg.

Luke Shaw has been spotted with a protective boot on his foot after suffering a new injury setback. The Manchester United defender has been out since December.

Due to an injury sustained during the 1-1 draw with Leicester, the left-back was unable to play in last weekend's defeat at Everton. Shaw has missed the last couple of weeks of training since he had metal bolts removed from his leg during that time.

After sustaining a double leg break versus PSV Eindhoven in 2015, Shaw underwent surgery to have the bolts implanted. In the first half of Manchester United's game against Leicester, the 26-year-old received treatment on the pitch before eventually being substituted before half-time.

Due to his absence from the defeat at Goodison Park, Shaw has already been ruled out of the clubs' future games against Norwich, Liverpool, and Arsenal. There have since been reports that the England international may now be forced to miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

It is possible that the defender will be rested for the remainder of the season in order to carefully manage his rehabilitation process and avoid being pushed back into action. Evidence of his setback was made very obvious in an interview.

Shaw's latest setback, according to interim manager Ralf Rangnick, came as a complete surprise to him and the rest of the United team. He could now find himself in the position of having to prepare for the last seven games of the season without the England defense.

"To be completely honest, it came as a complete surprise to me, and the same can be said for our medical department," Rangnick added. His difficulties were revealed to me during the international break while he was with the England group. He played against Leicester and suffered an injury five minutes before half-time that required him to be treated on the field.

"And at halftime, the doctor came to see me and told me he was unable to continue, and since then, we have been debating the best course of action, and they have decided to remove the two bolts."
