Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane claims that the current Manchester United team does not resemble the one he was a part of during his time at the club.
Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 4-0 at Anfield on Tuesday night, leaving the Red Devils with nothing. It puts yet another crimp in their quest for a top-four finish, as they remain three points behind Tottenham despite having played one more game.
For the entire 90 minutes, Liverpool dominated and humiliated the visitors, who had already suffered a 5-0 defeat in the reverse meeting at Old Trafford earlier this season. Keane, a former Manchester United captain, was on Sky Sports punditry duty for the game, and in an emotional description of the situation, he described his former employers as being in "disarray".
"I guess it was anger in the beginning of the season, but now I just think it's melancholy," he remarked of his feelings. "If you take a look at the team today, there was no heart, no soul, and no leadership."
"They lacked quality, and they were so far away from the mark. If you look at the Manchester United supporters, they don't appear to be surprised by the result."
In addition, he stated, "They battled till the finish, but you had the impression that Liverpool could score whenever they wanted when they moved forward." From the top to the bottom of this football club, there is a state of chaos."
Before the final whistle sounded, a large number of Manchester United supporters had already left Anfield. As a result of the animosity felt by fans towards the club's owners, Keane believes the club's image has been tarnished. He stated: "The fans have no time for the proprietors." Ownership, management and players are all being sought after by the opposition.
"It's heartbreaking to see since it's not the club for which I used to play. Manchester United did not represent these ideals when I was a member of the club, and they are nothing more than chalk and cheese.
There is no Manchester United team out there fighting or playing with pride," says the author.
