Arsenal host Manchester United on Sunday, and captain Harry Maguire has been benched by manager Ralf Rangnick, who has decided he needs a vacation after a difficult week.
After United's 2-1 loss to Liverpool in midweek, Maguire received a bomb threat at his home, and with Raphael Varane back in the squad, the skipper has been relegated to the bench at the Emirates.
Varane is partnered by Victor Lindelof, with whom Rangnick has reverted to a back four after starting with a three-man defense in the midweek match against Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Rangnick, "I had to make a decision between the three of them; Harry has had a difficult week, so I decided to rest him and bring in Rapha Varane and Victor Lindelof."
There are a total of five changes from the side that was beaten so convincingly at Anfield in midweek. After missing time due to injury, Varane and Scott McTominay are back in the lineup, and Cristiano Ronaldo has returned from compassionate leave. Alex Telles and Jadon Sancho have been elevated from their respective positions on the bench.
Having Varane and McTominay back in the lineup is a positive development, and Rangnick has stated that Fred will return to training early next week as well.
For today's game, it was critical to have those three players available since we had a number of players absent for Liverpool, particularly in defensive midfield; Fred will return to training in the next couple of days; and for the next few days, it was crucial to have those three players available "As he put it

United must beat Arsenal in order to keep their dreams of finishing in the top four alive, but Rangnick expects a difficult encounter against the Gunners.
he added. "We have to make sure it is not too open, it is not as open as we were at times against Liverpool, it is about being compact, good on the counter, having our own pressing and counter-pressing moments and on the other hand control their offensive line, they have three fast strikers and Odegaard a very good offensive midfielder, it is about balance of the game."
