Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are the two teams that have made the most progress. In the running for Barcelona

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are now contenders to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong ahead of Manchester United.

De Jong has established himself as a regular starter at Barcelona under Xavi and has sparked interest from some of Europe's top clubs.

Manchester City's interest in the 24-year-old Dutch midfielder, as seen in the tweet below, gives them a higher chance of acquiring him for next season's Champions League campaign.

According to Calcio Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Neymar.

Manchester United are presently five points behind Arsenal in the race for the top four, but they have also played two more games.

The lure of Champions League football may affect De Jong's selection between Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, who are both top of their respective leagues.

Even if Barcelona would prefer to keep De Jong, the allure of working for a manager like Pep Guardiola may be too strong to ignore.

It may be difficult to sign Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with De Jong at Ajax, unless the Dutch club makes the Champions League.
