According to Sky Sports, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named Football Writers' Association Men's Footballer of the Year for 2021/22.

Salah has scored 30 goals and assisted 14 times in 44 appearances this season, averaging a goal per game. In the Premier League's goal-scoring and assist categories, the Egyptian is the league's leading scorer and has made a significant impact on Liverpool's season.

A win over Man City on Sunday would put Liverpool in the Champions League final alongside the FA Cup final in May. The Reds are one point behind Premier League leaders Man City.

Salah has been Liverpool's finest player this season, but it's possible to argue that he isn't the best player in the league.

Compared to the first half of the season, the Egyptian has struggled and hasn't been as effective in front of goal as many would like.

When it comes to keeping Liverpool on track for the quadruple, Alisson Becker is unquestionably one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. This would have been the ideal time to recognize a goalkeeper's outstanding season-long performance, but it appears that the usual forward bias in award nominations has returned.

This is Salah's second consecutive trophy, following an excellent debut season in the 2017/18 season in which he won the first time around.
